Photoshop Project

Introduction:

I choose my house for this project because it is the place I usually go when I need something or someone, rather it is help from my family or just a home cooked meal. My house is my safe place when I am feeling sick or sad, I go home and feel better instantly. I wanted to try a capture the hidden beauty of it. When people think of a house they usually just think of the surface but I wanted to go a little further than that. I wanted to show that a house is not just a house and that it means more than just that. I decided to shoot at perspectives that you normally would not think twice about looking something at because it changes the view of the item or place.

Postcard 1:

For the first postcard, I took pictures of things that reminded me of my childhood or of changes throughout my life. For example, the flower pot with a plant in it is a memory because every year my mom and I go out and buy and plants flowers. It's something we have done since I was really little so it means a lot to me. I wanted to make it more beautiful by adding butterflies and I made the flowers growing instead of dying from the change in seasons. I added the butterflies because when I was little I always wanted to go outside and see a ton of butterflies flying around the flowers my mom and I picked out.

In the second postcard I decided to use a picture of my bedroom. I also wanted to photograph my bedroom because it represents change and growing up to who I am today. When I was little I remember my parents coming into my room and reading me the best bedtime stories. I decided to bring imagination to life in this postcard because when I was little this is what I would imagine would happen when I went to sleep. I have had the same bedroom since I was a little girl. The paint color and furniture may have changed a few times, but all the changes represent me growing up.

Finally, in the last postcard, I decided to do my front door. This is the door that all my family and friends enter. The door, for me, represents moving forward and the fact that everyday we are changing. I wanted to make it known that my house is my safe place and means a lot to me which is why I used the text: Home is where the heart is. I truly believe if you love something that you will forever return to it.  My house will always be where my family is because my family means so much to me and that is where my heart is. As long as my family are there then I consider that my home.  I also wanted to show pictures with decoration because my family goes all out for holidays and they mean a lot to us.

Concept map:

Place: Macomb, Mi
Setting: My house
Issue/Problem: I wanted to show that your house is just as beautiful as places like the beach or park. The issue is the beauty is hidden and is not on the surface, but under the surface.
Goal: To show that your house can be as beautiful as other place and to prove it is a safe place to go.

Demos:

During this project I learned how to erase the background without erasing the hair with the background eraser tool. I also learned how to make a shadow under the lion in the back by using the selection tool.

Comments

  1. The fantasy element is very present here. The bottom card came just in time for October! The solutions proposed are sometimes a little unclear, but the photos are well done overall.

  3. The second post card is my favorite. I really like the dream-like quality presented, and its even better that the dolphin is jumping over the bed which is where dreams are created. Good colors and good job!

  4. I really enjoy your second image. It makes me feel like the bed is floating in the ocean and has this beautiful dolphin jumping over it. But, I also think that it is interesting that I can see the corner of what was the bedroom in the corner. So it makes me question if this is outside or inside. I think that it is very effective.

  5. I really enjoy the second one and how you successfully transformed the bedroom into something from your imagination. It looks believable and like something that every little girl would want her bedroom to be.

  6. I enjoy your second postcard. It is like when you count sheep at night which I like that connection. I wish it was in a bedroom instead of on the water.

  7. I love the way the text comes out of the wall in the third postcard. The second postcard also is really interesting in how distant from our normal perception of reality is.

  9. I appreciate how you took the time to create backs to your postcards for each individual one. That really shows the effort in which you put into making each postcard individual and specific to its message. Specifically speaking I think the first image was the most successful in depicting a realistic and imaginary scene. I think the tool of varying the tilt shift in photoshop of the image really allows for depth and perspective within the image.

  10. Your first postcard is my favorite- it is very sweet yet realistic. The flower pot is blurred, which gives emphasis to the vibrant butterflies, it looks almost like a fairytale.

  11. I like the second postcard. I like the childlike sense of wonder and imagination in the piece, and really emphasizes the hidden nature and value of the house/home. I think it could be made stronger by keeping the bedroom floor and adding a different fantastical background to really amplify the wonder of the image.
